I have been working at USAA full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    1. Yearly bonus that is 10% of salary; not guaranteed but Board votes to award it yearly quite regularly. 2. If you work at HQ on Fredericksburg Rd., there are cafeterias, etc. Bit pricey though but food quality is generally good. 3. High job security, eg, no layoffs due to covid-19.

    Cons

    1. USAA has many former military ppl. They bring that culture in w/ them. One big issue and they acknowledge it is ppl seem reticent to deliver bad news to or dissent much w/ their superiors. This leads to blunders and lost opportuities at times. 2. Promotions/raises based less on competence and more on seniority, like the military, though by and large the mgt. is competent. 3. They are top-heavy with a low mgr-to-worker ratio. This can create a lot of politics in some cases and the bureacracy and sandbox issues can be outsized.

I have been working at USAA full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    * Handled COVID-19 in an extremely positive way. Made sure employees were taken care of as a top priority. * Good benefits. 8% 401k match, health, etc...

    Cons

    * The salary is a bit lower than you'd expect with similar tech jobs, although they do make up for this with workplace flexibility. I hear this varies by team. * Large corporate atmosphere, for better or worse.

I worked at USAA full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Pay and environment were good

    Cons

USAA pushes out poor investment securities to their customers. We push mutual funds with ridiculous expense ratios. Stay away! Go invest in ETFs. We pick mutual funds that perform terribly compared to other investment securities and consistently underperform benchmarks. Year after year. Do yourself a favor and stay away from USAAs Managed portfolios or managed portfolios from most places. People: if you use this account you will lose 10s of thousands or more in fees. straight from your pocket into usaa's pocket. look up etfs vs managed portolio on google. look up the history of how often "wealth advisors" outperform the market. heres a hint: very rare! ask your wealth advisor if they invest in the same terrible mutual funds you are invested in. let them lie to you. lol. garbage expense ratios!! the veteran is not first at usaa. dont let the charm fool you!!!
