Pros

The projects can be exciting depending on what you're cast on. If you like your super hero movies, this place has them.

Cons

Do you like working like a dog everyday of your life? Do you like working in an environment where you fear for your job everyday? Do you like waiting until Friday to see if you'll have a job the following Monday? Do you like being fired over IM? Well then this is the place for you! I've never worked for a company that treats you worse or respects you less.

Thanks for taking the time to give such a detailed review here. We put a lot of effort towards creating work/life balance, transparency, and an overall positive employee experience, so reading some of your comments was disappointing. Our business ebbs and flows since we are a service-for-hire company and so we try to be very candid with all project hires about the length of their booking, which allows them to accept opportunities that are most in line with their personal and professional endeavors. We’ve tightened up our extension and end of project lead times to provide a minimum of 2 weeks’ notice before the end of a booking to ensure that this doesn’t happen in the future. That said, your review is a bit inconsistent with the majority of our other reviews. We’re truly sorry that we didn’t meet your expectations. In an effort to gain greater insight into your experience so we can look into this further, please feel free to email glassdoor@thethirdfloorinc.com. That email account is automatically redirected to senior HR staff and will allow us to gain more specific details that can help us improve things going forward. Again, thanks so much for your feedback. We truly appreciate it!

Interesting work. Smart People. Awful time-off policies. Zero loyalty.

Pros

Really smart people doing really interesting things with real time rendering, pre- and post-viz and virtual production. A good chance you'll be working on big name properties (Marvel, Star Wars, etc). Willing to work remote for those jobs that do not require being physically on set.

Cons

Awful time off policies. Contractors get almost none. Even staff only get 6 days vacation. Also a MANDATORY, UNPAID two week furlough between xmas and new year. If you want a paycheck during that time, you have to use vacation (and NOT sick time). Regardless of your employment status (staff, contract, etc) you will be laid off the MOMENT work dries up. They might ask you back in 4 weeks, but they have no problem booting you to save on the benefits costs. Do not count on their generosity.

A Dream Job For Some...

Pros

Full of really talented and fun artists who love what they do. High profile feature films blockbuster projects. Starting November 2016, even contract employees qualify for health care through company. Management supports a positive, artist friendly environment. Office staff are cool and friendly. Hands down, the coolest, most down to Earth CEO of any company I've worked for.

Cons

Pay rates seem frozen, so set your rate where you want it when you first get hired. Some pretty unpleasant personalities in Supervisor positions making job more stressful than it needs to be. A feeling of entitlement from casting who seem to expect artists to be on hold as long as it suits them. I know it's hard to juggle and cast so many artists on so many jobs, but 90% of artist are contract who come and go with about 1 to 2 days notice... There is an almost cult like "We're the best...Previs is the best...Third Floor is the best" vibe in the studio. It makes me wonder if some of the long time staff have Third Floor tattoos, like Nike employees get a 'swoosh' tattoo to show loyalty. If you are just there to work, it can feel kind of creepy. Crunch can get ridiculous. This is definitely a "Live to Work" job environment. If you love Marvel etc. you will love it. If not, it's just an industry job.

We appreciate you providing feedback here on Glassdoor as we’re always open to hearing the thoughts of our current and former employees. We take our culture and our artist friendly environment very seriously, and we know that we’re only as good as the talent we attract, develop and retain. I’m sorry that you’ve had a bad experience with a supervisor and as a current employee, I would encourage you to share that feedback more directly with a member of the HR team so we can explore your concerns in greater detail. The same is true with regard to your comment about pay rates being frozen and crunch. That word makes us cringe here at TTF! We make a very conscious and active effort to minimize employees having to work more than 45 hours a week and on weekends in order to ensure work/life balance. Sure, there will be times before or after a screening that we have to work longer or harder to ensure our client is happy, but it should be an exception and not the rule. Finally, as a general rule, a majority of our employees are actually staff, not project hires. We know that investing in the long-term success of our employees provides job security, career growth and overall happy folks. We want to hear your thoughts though so we can make things even better. It’s feedback like yours that will allow us to continue to improve. Again, please reach out to a member of the HR team as we’d love to address your specific concerns in person. Thanks again for sharing!
