Pros

Novel fault-tolerant server technology (ftServer). Some really great people.

Cons

Recent glowing reviews, following several negative ones, are highly suspect and has motivated me to comment and set the record straight. Acquired by private equity firm Siris Capital in 2014, it is only a matter of time before Stratus is either acquired or it's assets sold off. The company is living off a captive install base of aging proprietary systems. Sales of newer ftServer systems based on Windows/Linux/VMware have been sluggish. Software initiatives, EverRun and Cloud, have generated no significant revenue and are poorly marketed, or even understood. Competitive offerings from bigger industry players will continue to erode Stratus' fault-tolerant niche. Long term customers will eventually migrate away from aging legacy systems. The culture is horribly political and anti-social. You won't find a company baseball team here!! Under staffing in all areas also hampers the company's ability to grow and adequately support existing customers and partners. This is a no/low-growth company. Many long-term employees are simply hanging on until retirement. New employees get frustrated and generally don't stick around very long. That's the REAL story, unfortunately.

Pros

I’ve worked at Stratus for three years and I’ve been here through much of the turmoil that has been mentioned in some of the other reviews. A lot of it was true - no question. What is important to note is that Stratus has gone through a bunch of changes – leadership, products, industry needs, technology onslaught – and over 35 years the value of what Stratus has provided has not changed. While hardware has led the way for the last 30 years the company is now finding its way with software and Cloud offerings that have changed the way Stratus goes to market. Has hardware taken a back seat? Not in any way!! In fact, hardware in some ways has found a new markets – the Cloud and infrastructure at the edge – so working at Stratus has never been a more interesting environment. As for the culture, our old building was just awful. Very dry, bland, without much life. The new building has been quite a change to the workforce because we’ve moved from the old environment to the newly renovated mill buildings in Maynard. The new facility is absolutely incredible. The technology in the conference rooms blew me away and the collaboration within departments and between departments is through the roof. There are new activities for the employees, a great lounge area and with the building in downtime Maynard it’s very appealing to those of us that don’t get the appeal of two hour commutes to Boston – especially since Stratus salaries seem competitive with downtime organizations. The work is heavy hitting. We’re small teams and there’s a lot of work to go around. Multiple products, partners, verticals and more to support around the globe keeps things interesting. I’ve learned a ton at Stratus, and with the small teams I’m able to have an impact on multiple projects every day. Like every place, it’s fast paced, challenging, and always changing. Right now is a great time to be at Stratus.

Cons

Tech can seem pretty boring and the competition is tough. In addition, because Stratus does what it does so well the products and value we provide doesn't feel like it changes much. But, I guess it doesn't have to because it works and continues to work.

Pros

Smart, creative, dedicated employees. Welcoming atmosphere as far as individual team members and HR goes. Free snacks. HR is trying to do more activities for inclusiveness.

Cons

Certain elements in management are making it difficult for all the great people who work there to want to stay there. Check the box mentality from some of management. Poor communication from managers in some departments.
