Pros
Oktobor was my first job in the animation industry; I began there as an intern straight from study. I have never learnt so much in my life. The artists and directors were always willing to bend over backwards to help and offer advice, and the passionate vibe for art and animation I felt in this place fuelled my desire to work in this industry. The work was challenging, but inspiring. I feel it has made me a stronger artist for sure. I got to practise my craft on cool, Emmy award winning shows, like the Penguins of Madagascar, and Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness. The producers and directors were always approachable, friendly, and willing to help out when necessary (shifting shots around to accommodate time off, etc) Great place for learning how to handle your time efficiently. Schedules are tight, and constant. The people gave the place such a cool atmosphere, and there were plenty of fun social events, like 'Oktoborfest'.
Cons
There are no benefits for contractors, like sick leave, holiday pay, etc.

Negative OutlookI worked at Oktobor Animation for more than a year
Pros
The hours were flexible. The company provided Friday night beverages and organised activities, and everyone was a joy to work with. There were some fun and challenging projects to work on as well, fueled by the unlimited supply of coffee from the expresso machine.
Cons
Company went through a transition and had to close its doors in Auckland, slave as it was to external contracts that had inevitably dried up.

RecommendsNegative OutlookI worked at Oktobor Animation for less than a year
Pros
Really fun work environment and great people. This company was really striving to make fun and quality viewing that was enjoyable to work on. While deadlines were tight they still worked hard to create a fun and relaxed work environment for the staff and that showed in the work content.
Cons
Low pay rates. High work load, some shots are more complicated than others and therefore take longer to complete. No additional time is allowed though and unpaid overtime is pretty common if you want to keep the shots. All staff were on contract, this means no benifits. No paid days off or sick leave, if you don't come to work you simply don't get paid.

Pros
Oktobor Animation was my first job in the Animation industry, and they gave me a fair fighting chance to prove myself as an Animator. Before being hired by Oktobor Animation, I was a student at Animation Mentor, and from what they taught and described as your daily agenda as an animator, Oktobor Animation’s pipeline fit the description perfectly. We were not expected to deal with any technical issues with our shots. I was there to animate and was expected to do just that. The most rewarding feeling for me every day at Oktobor was that I felt creatively challenged every day and most days overcame the particular obstacle in the shot I was working on.
Cons
All and all I felt my producer and assistant and directors were very approachable. Some times (especially in the beginning) I felt it was hard to ask questions of your director especially because the work load they had. However if I ever had any issue with possibly not meeting deadlines or having to take time off I was always taken care of quickly.

RecommendsNeutral OutlookI have been working at Oktobor Animation for more than 3 years
Pros
Oktobor offers a fantastic learning environment. Artists are given the opportunity to work on both fun and challenging projects that promote the artist to improve in skill, efficiency, and time management. The company has an abundance of fun and talented artists/ and directors who are only too eager to share their time and knowledge. Whilst scheduling is always tight, the producers always strive to improve this. Oktobor has a great atmosphere, and regularly schedules fun social events. Free coffee and beer.
Cons
There are no benefits for contractors (not uncommon in this industry), and the tight schedules unfortunately means that if one mismanages their time the unforgiving workload will get the better of them.
