      Pros

Great students working on interesting, diverse projects. Colleagues were amazing teachers, students, and grad students from all different backgrounds. I met some really amazing people here who really cared about education! Good benefits.

      Cons

Some of the upper management get paid too much to do too little. I've heard they are now cutting essential services like student health and tutoring.

      Pros

Amazing, progressive and creative student population, great colleagues, some departments have a great work culture and great work/life balance, some have opportunities for advancement, resource-rich, great location, reasonable work hours, good benefits- especially free classes, health insurance and vacation.

      Cons

Highest level admin is making what was once a very unique university more and more corporate, to the detriment of the university's mission. Low salaries and negligible raises, some departments have a toxic culture and poor work/life balance (as noted, others are excellent and supportive), everyone talks a great talk of being progressive, but many policies and protocol are lacking. Faculty and staff have brought solutions to senior level admin who do not prioritize addressing this.

      Beware of this "progressive" institution

      Pros

Good benefits (health, dental, vision, retirement and vacation time)

      Cons

The New School, while progressive in theory and its outward PR, has shifted towards a corporatized style of management where employees are overworked, under-appreciated, and fearful due to increasing job insecurity. We've watched so many great colleagues (staff AND faculty) disappear, with no transparency, and an expectation that no inquiries into these staff eliminations be made. Those work responsibilities are then piled onto the already overworked remaining staff- without promotion or pay (which is modest and insulting to begin with compared to other institutions). Full-time faculty are also being told their positions are no longer "institutionally needed" and their positions are being eliminated on a large scale. The culture of fear and insecurity permeates the environment on all levels.

      Thick bureaucracy

      Pros

      - Good benefits. 403b contributions (very generous), health insurance and transit - Reasonable work hours, most people do not work beyond 9-5. - Friendly co-workers

      Cons

      - Low pay - Management is generally inept. They either do not know what's going on under them and rely on "spies" to get people to snitch on team members or they micromanage while being incompetent. - Good managers don't last - Raises are non-existent - No upward mobility
