I worked at Michelin North America for more than 8 years

    Pros

Manufacturing and quality base set them apart from the competition.

    Cons

The more French management they bring over to the US, the more strange and disjointed they become.

I worked at Michelin North America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I got hired on through very fortuitous program. Benefits were good, pension, 401K, discount tire program, etc. Had some excellent people

    Cons

Lack of overall teamwork and cohesion in management staff. Teased for not knowing french acronyms starting out with company. Mentorship non existent.

I worked at Michelin North America full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great people, great culture, job security, responsible and overall great training. Fantastic best in class products. Very good benefits.

    Cons

Slow decision making. Salaries are way below market & rock stars get penalized - French culture manages to the middle. You literally have to commit a felony to get fired. Work productivity tools (IT) are archaic at best. Process heavy and a little light on creativity & innovation (product is clearly an exception)

I worked at Michelin North America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Greenville, SC is a nice city and the HQ offices are nice, pay is good for the area and the workload, the work is interesting and the company makes excellent products

    Cons

Despite being the North American office, Michelin retains a collectivist/French culture of navel-gazing and obsessive reflection on problems instead of taking action to fix them. Everything takes a long time to get done, from the simplest HR task to product changes. There's a chance to change job roles but this never comes with more pay, just a different job. As a result, there are many engineers in roles for which they are ill trained (like marketing, sales, HR).

I have been working at Michelin North America full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The people are the best reason to work here. Strong family culture and potential international opportunities combined with future career growth potential are the reasons I stay. Even if upward moves are not always possible, it seems as though lateral moves can be to keep you from getting bored or stuck in the same job for too many years. The company spends an immense amount of resources on training so you do not feel unprepared for an assignment (usually). Job security is also a big selling point amongst coworkers.

    Cons

You will not achieve the highest pay for your position for sure. It's well known that Michelin does not pay the highest or even close for equivalent positions elsewhere. Sometimes bureaucratic tape can be frustrating. Working with the global French team can also be frustrating for Americans who are used to things happening quickly.
