I have been working at House of Fraser full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

This job is a great stepping stone for progression in retail management, running a department with a large turnover and many staff. Although the role pays less than a similar one in a stand alone store. There is a lot going on, the support of a large management team and great opportunities to work with fantastic product in a very busy environment.

    Cons

Poor pay. Some long standing staff members receive preferential treatment and newer/younger team members can be overlooked despite many recent changes in the company which make some previous knowledge of policies, practices etc obsolete. Company recovering from administration so still uncertainty when it comes to job security.

    Advice to Management

Notice the potential in everyone and give equal opportunities.

I worked at House of Fraser part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Exciting and fun. Worked in the menswear department, loads of great characters and management that encouraged hard work. Never understaffed and morale was always great amongst all workers.

    Cons

Only flaw at this store was it could get extremely busy during christmas.

I worked at House of Fraser part-time

    Pros

Good floor staff, good security, operations team were good.

    Cons

Management rely on floor staff too much, pay is ridiculous for the responsibility you are given. Staffing was atrocious. Normal staff would have to close tills of a night and management were so weak that they’d let concession staff and have hof staff do all the work. No back bone whatsoever. Management was barely taking part in shop floor goings on, and shied away from customer complaints and discrepancies leaving their...

    Advice to Management

Take on more floor staff and don’t leave your sales assistant to run the floor on the late shift and close everyone’s tills.
