Pros

You’ll gain a lot of valuable experience. This is because the client services team is drastically understaffed so everyone needs to do the work of 3 people

Cons

Absolutely everything. First and foremost, salaries are at least 20% lower than what they should be given the amount of work involved as well that it is highly technical within Pharma. They’re able to get away with this by almost exclusively hiring kids straight out of school. Management/HR’s roles are to crack the whip and make sure you’re constantly producing despite the CEO and president always telling us how much they care about work life balance. There is absolutely no way to carve out a reasonable workload without falling behind or missing deadlines which in turn leads to more micromanagement. The only people who get promoted are the ones working 12 hour days on a daily basis while also being involved in their stupid “committees” so it’s a lot of social politics as well As for the work itself, Med comms is a very biology centric field so if you don’t have a genuine interest in science/biology, you’ll be bored out of your mind every day. Also the clients, being major Pharma brands, are extremely rude and demanding so there is little gratification in executing a project on their behalf. TLDR - if you want to work crazy hours doing the most tedious work imaginable at well below market rate with a bunch of fake women gaslighting you, then HSC is your home!

Good place to start

Pros

The company hires great fun people, but lacks vision and effort to create a a real company and/or culture. Experience is depends on who you work with and what you make of it. Highly motivated people will do well but realize they can get paid more and receive mentorship and training elsewhere (these people typically last 2 years). Those who prefer to coast or do a task at hand will enjoy it. Definitely recommended as a place to start but not a place to grow.

Cons

Salaries have not changed in years, promotions are based on cycles, and current departments and agency leads are smart and kind but don’t want to put effort into building a culture when they still have to bow to a holding company that sucks profits.

Pros

Some individuals are friendly and warm to work with.

Cons

Passive-aggressive leadership, work-life balance is non-existent, the culture is to have "thick skin" for those who are rude instead of creating a better work environment.
