Pros

Overall the employees there are friendly, and they do have an onsite gym which is nice

Cons

The upper level of management sees themselves as an exclusive club, and is often described as 'a boys club'. They are not in tune to what is going on with in the rest of the company. This company gives too much credit to employees who have been there for 20+ years and often promotes, the limited times there's opportunity to promote, based on length of time there instead of actual skill level. They talk a lot and make lots of promises but none of them are followed thru on. Pay is definitely below industry standards. Virtually no room for growth. Technology is just pitiful. This company is so far behind it might as well still be the 1980's there. CEO walks around waving and smiling like a politician. He acts incredibly friendly but then over reacts to the smallest things, and when he over reacts he is a jerk about it. The IT department needs to be cleared out and start from scratch....but perhaps this should start with the CEO since most likely the lack of advancement is because of him.

Pros

A stable, long-established business that is doing well. Good CEO. Standard, complete benefit package. Small community of less than 200 people. Friendly people in general. Charming attempts at building community and morale, like ice cream for all in the courtyard as a summer surprise

Cons

Pay is modest. Paid time off is modest. Healthcare choice is limited to Group Health. IT department is a nightmare of technical incompetence and man's inhumanity to man. The immediate manager can’t stand up to his direct reports, so it’s managed by the Lord of the Flies. He weasels from cube to cube gossiping about direct report A to direct report B, and vice versa in the next cube (...not quietly enough). Divisiveness is pervasive. No concept of team-building, or everyone being on the same side. The software delivered costs probably 5 times what it should, due to disorganization and low competence. An entrenched culture I don’t see changing till the manager is replaced with strong, fair, and technically knowledgeable leadership, and the group culture has time to some recover

Pros

Truly some great people to work with

Cons

Truly some terrible people running this place. CEO who has no idea what's actually happening in the building and who defers to recently hired "executives" for overall decision-making, Allowing HR to run your company for you is a bad business decision. Compensation. Employee Retention.

It’s unfortunate to hear about your experience but we acknowledge we can always do better. Our purpose it to support and partner with everyone at GIA and we are proud of the accomplishments we’ve made this year to continuously improve the employee experience. We agree, there’s been a lot of change across GIA to continue to build our path forward, taking a traditional insurance company and transitioning it for what it continues to face in the industry is never easy. However, we intentionally involved every employee in developing our companywide strategic plan and we continue to see great momentum in our engagement and alignment across all employees. Yes, we have brought on new executives to help support us throughout the last few years and to be honest, we believe challenging all employees to bring their best and uncover and develop skill beyond traditional responsibilities is what makes GIA such a great place to be – we aren’t restricted and are inclusive in how we promote, develop, and engage everyone. We would really like the opportunity to talk more about your feedback, please feel free to reach out to Sharie Hyder (shyder@grange.com) to connect.
