      Pros

Mission-driven faculty and administrative staff with a can-do attitude. If someone doesn't know the answer, they are willing to connect you with someone who can help. People find the time to help each other out.

      Cons

Limited career growth, advancement opportunities, and salary increases for administrative staff. A traditionalist mentality means that changing things can be very difficult. Divisions (departments) are siloed, contributing to communication issues and lack of advancement/career growth.

      Pros

Fred Hutch is located in Seattle which is a fairly nice city. Especially if you can adapt to a tech environment.

      Cons

On the surface, Fred Hutch is proactive in diversity and inclusion. In practice, it is common practice that postdocs from foreign countries are recruited and exploited with little support for a further career. As long as you did not graduate from one of the US universities that are regarded as "elite" in the US (Harvard, Berkeley, Stanford, or UW), Fred Hutch will have zero interest in your further career.

-Low pay considering the high cost of living in the greater Seattle area -Your experience will largely depend on who you work for/with. Some PIs, Managers, etc., do not create the best work environment -Zero onboarding or training -HR is inadequate for such a large organization. Feels impersonal
