Pros
It seems a miracle to have so many like-minded individuals, competent staff, creative exchanges, and holistic approaches in such a small place in rural VT. The clients are actually motivated to change and the staff actually care about each other. I look forward to coming to work every day. I don't know many people in the mental heath/addictions field that can say that. As a member of staff, if you have a passion (horticulture, wilderness therapy, DIY, etc), we find a way to incorporate it into the everyday lives of the residents. It is impossible to feel bored or stuck here as an employee. Did I mention there is a chef who cooks free lunches for us every day? (Gluten free, vegan, vegetarian options always too!)
Cons
You need to really buy in to the way things are done here to be a happy employee. (For me, this has been easy.) This residential treatment program has been around forever, and the pace of treatment is slow and intentional.
