Pros

If you know the right people (or your family works there) you are untouchable. If you are a union employee you are also untouchable.

Cons

If you care about doing things ethically or being treated ethically, you are in for some nasty surprises. If you think you are being given an opportunity to prove yourself, you are dead wrong. This is NOT a meritocracy. They promote based on years worked at Penske. Not performance. Not overall experience. They will make exceptions only if you know someone or you uncle/dad whatever is high up. When I was first hired up until my first review: I was given nothing but compliments from managers at all levels. I outperformed ever single peer and many of my managers. I was told one week into my position that I was over qualified and they would find a position for me soon. Fast forward a few months. They chose not to give me a the "automatic" merit increase at 4-months that was promised in the interview. 3 months after that. they gave me an unsatisfactory review and when I asked the reason they said it was because I had not worked there long enough and "no one gets a satisfactory review their first try." Which by the way, according to Penske wide HR policies I am not eligible for any promotions or pay raises for the next year, as a result. They also said I failed to do "my" development plan, when they acknowledge that they never told me nor even made me one. When I tried to go over my manager to have someone review what my manager had said, I was told that the only way I would get promoted was if I "worked" with him and he would put in a good word for me. I was sick to my stomach when I heard that. Whatever few good managers they have, they are vastly outweighed by the absolutely despicable ones they have actually running things. I will not bribe my manager for a promotion nor will I stoop to any other unethical activities. Good news is that your worst customer service experiences will not be from actual customers, they will be with Penske management.

Pros

Great place to get your foot in the door. Loved working with both maintenance supervisors I worked for. Learned a lot in a short time at a smaller shop

Cons

Upper management is very reluctant to promote you. Got the runaround despite my immediate managers and district manager pulling for me.
