A class-action lawsuit waiting to happen - Editorial Assistant Penguin Random House Employee Review

Pros

Good benefits Lots of vacation days Books! We love books.

Cons

If you have a bad manager, they’ll do nothing about it. Some managers have no concept of how to be a good manager, basics like support employees, communicate clearly, or give constructive feedback. Compensation is low, and some teams only let you enter 35 hours even if you worked more so you’ll have to read/edit for free to advance in editorial, which sounds a lot like wage theft as I understand it.

Pros

Great writing, Top tier production

Cons

The male director never asked me once how I was doing or offer any advice to calm my nerves (on my first production ever with them) which lead to a burdensome recording process.

Pros

Great People, wonderful industry, books!

Cons

It has become less about the product and the people and more about the profit. No room for advancement. More work, less people, less empathy.
