Pros

Opportunity to help students better understand course material and succeed academically. Developed leadership, communication, and mentoring skills through working with students and faculty. Gained experience facilitating discussions and supporting a positive learning environment.

Cons

Limited hours and income due to the part-time nature of the position. Balancing Learning Assistant responsibilities with coursework and other commitments could be challenging during busy weeks. Student participation and engagement levels varied, which could sometimes make sessions less interactive than intended.

Pros

- The chance to impact a lot of students' lives. - Free housing and food. Highest food plan, at least when I was employed. It's nice not to have to cook. You can still run out of funds if you're not careful, so watch out for that. - Choose your work/hall environment (sort of). Also, choose your workstyle (sort of). You give your dorm preference, but the ultimate decision does not lie with you. Some RAs are more involved, some are less. It's somewhat flexible, but will depend on what dorm/community you're in, and what your Resident Director expects of you.

Cons

- WARNING: Free housing and food can mess up or reduce your scholarships! Look into this first. - Long hours at times. Responsibilities seem to pile up all at once, and happen to pile up at the same time school responsibilities do. The work is flexible if your Resident Director is understanding though :) - The long hours into the night can be a plus. If you like your staff team, it's a good bonding experience and you can make some great friends!
