On Creating a Tense, Unrewarding Career Filled with Sudden, Arbitrary Changes - Membership Representative Nielsen Employee Review

Pros

40-50% work from home (which can be bad if you're unorganized) Company car (at a price) Cell phone (keep your own, they're watching)

Cons

The annual attrition rate being over 50% should be a warning to everyone. Don't believe the work life balance hard sell. 8a-7p, 9a-10p, 9a-6p, any of these can happen and it's different every day. Don't believe the "you may have to work an occasional Saturday" hard sell. Expect to work Saturdays and you better work peak hours on Saturday or else. Sunday? Sure. That's a thing too. Comparisons of membership reps between vastly different markets are common. Prepare to be compared to someone who works three areas to your one area a thousand miles away and asked why you're not producing on their level and don't make excuses. Frustrating daily production systems errors. No feeling of teamwork. Non-stop shifting/quitting of management. No upward mobility except in rare cases. Expect contact from management at any hour on any day so keep your com[any phone handy. A lot of work and a lot of stress for not a lot of pay and a bonus structure that has become embarrassing. I have been pressured to adjust my time clock entries more than once to avoid overtime reporting. Unethical. Training is a joke. New people come in completely unprepared and fail quickly.

Nielsen Response

There is always room for improvement and we appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. We have many learning and development opportunities, including our most recent Grow with Us program, side projects, and mentoring programs. We had many associates across Field Operations grow in their careers via promotions and lateral moves throughout 2018; many of our managers, trainers and operations leaders started in frontline roles. At Nielsen, we believe that you own your career growth and development and Nielsen makes every effort to support individual aspirations. At Nielsen we strive for work/life balance. Data shows that successful Membership Representatives (MRs) have the highest probability of signing a home during primetime hours, which include weeknights and weekends. Successful MRs who work 40 hours and schedule their recruitment time during primetime hours are far more likely to meet or exceed their goals. In this role maintaining a schedule of non-traditional hours is essential in order to be successful, and we acknowledge that those hours may not be right for some people. For many, the Membership Representative role is a great fit that offers them great rewards! We will take your feedback into consideration as we continue to work on creating the best working environment for our employees. If you have further insight and suggestions, we would love to hear from you.

Pros

Absolutley nothing. Which is a tragedy, because Nielsen was once an absolutely great place to work. I wanted to retire here. The culture used to be great, and I really loved being a part of this place. I loved my team, my management, and the people. Then along came the current CEO who is the classic example of a person who knows the cost of everything, but the value of nothing. He took over and ran the company full speed ahead in to the iceberg. And to try and save the sinking ship, he laid off literally thousands of highly experienced, highly trained, and highly engaged people to replace them with fresh overseas hires who know nothing about the company and expect them to be trained from the ground up to replace literally centuries of collective expererience and client relations. It's a disaster. This CEO shouldn't be trusted to run a lemonade stand.

Cons

Everything. Pay, job security, culture, management. Nothing is good here anymore. Don't take a job here unless you are truly desperate. And even then, it should only be as a stop-gap until you can find something else.
