Low salary. No opportunity for advancement. Work-life balance non-existent (All work). Always losing clients. An outsourcing company who outsources jobs! I worked at Mercer for over 11 years - I was hopelessly optimistic that things would eventually change for the better. The annual bonuses or merit increases were formula based and usually laughable. In 11 years, I saw no opportunity for advancement - only lateral moves, and numerous title changes that give the impression of advancement/movement on a resume. In January of 2018, most Support/Implementation roles were sent overseas - onshore, we were laid-off. We were retained - but moved into roles that were not fits for our technical backgrounds. An obvious attempt to make us miserable enough to quit of our own accord. It didn't work - so severance packages were eventually offered. Had attempts been made, instead, to train us for technical roles aligned with their new direction, I would have gladly stayed at Mercer for many more years. I saw more vertical opportunity in the newer technical roles - but they hired externally for them, rather than giving existing Support/Implementation staff a shot. For me, the pros outweighed the cons. I loved the culture. I enjoyed the type of work I was doing. I valued their flexible/remote working arrangements. I really wish I'd been considered for a new technical role rather than laid off. I had hoped to spend my entire career there.
