Experience - English Language Assistant Meddeas Employee Review

    1. 4.0
      28 Feb 2022
      English Language Assistant
Former Intern, less than 1 year
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Live abroad, quick communication/response time with the company and student

      Cons

Intense work hours and they need to give the student more transparency about what their work experience will truly be like once they get to Spain. The responsibilities and expectations that Meddeas provides the student are too vague in my personal opinion

        Pros

Assists with Visa Process and other teaching programs like the government program do not Vets candidates and has an interview process Takes interest in the location you want to be in Spain Has a Facebook Group once you commit and send in your deposit (refundable once the school year is completed) The Facebook page is very helpful in figuring out how to do Visa Paperwork from other language assistants that are going through the same Embassy as you. You get certified with your TEFL and AMET (Teaching English Certifications) from the University of Catalunya online by completing assignments throughout the year. Very manageable work and helpful content from the teachers. Just don't wait until the last minute. Meddeas only improves how they help their assistants from beginning to end of their time in the program. Living and teaching abroad was so fun!

        Cons

Meddeas does not really have control over the schools or the mentor you get paired with. Sometimes the mentor at the school can give you a poor schedule, so I would recommend really talking to the school about your schedule and make sure you're not sitting around all day at school when you could be working at home or exploring your city. Remember you are there to work, but they need to respect your time and life too!

          Pros

Transparency, help with the visa process, pays slightly more than the other programs.

          Cons

Not a ton of flexibility in terms of choosing your placement location, doesn't cover the cost of relocation.

Was told by an company I was interviewing with I would hear back from them the first week of December. The last time we spoke was before Thanksgiving, as I'm trying to respect their decision-making process. Should I reach out again now that we're closer to the date?

When negotiating salary over the phone, can you mention that you know what the salary is for the position you're applying for? E.g. I know people at the company I'm interviewing for in the exact level that I would be in who are making about 15k more than what I am expecting to be offered. Can I say, "I know Managers at this firm make xyz so I would like to be close to that number"

This is a Post-Intervew question, and I realize this is as individual as getting a haircut or fixing a cup of coffee. I had an interview with a medical office Wensday and I think it went pretty well. No, big hiccups on my end aside from getting tougne tied for a minute. I felt as though I had a good vibe with the interviewer. How do you after action an interview? (The reason I'm asking is I've been job hunting for near on 3 years now and I'm pretty frustrated with the situation.)
