Pros

Flexible hours, understanding of school schedule and can plan work around classes with ease, hands-on-approach with construction projects allowing interns to support various parts of the project. If you ask a question there is help from other team members. Cool projects in Chicago and surrounding areas, great exposure to construction industry

Cons

PE's are capable of greater tasks such as actually learning estimating, supporting superintendents and PM's greater. Roles sometimes operate in isolation instead of together for growth and advancement.

Pros

Burling Builders offers an overall positive work environment. Management and staff push for an attitude of asking questions and sharing information and ideas to provoke learning. In my time there, Burling was very flexible and accommodating as I finished my bachelor degree. There was a good flow of work that always kept me busy with tasks that I found mostly enjoyable and beneficial. They are a small to mid-size company but have the "small company feel" to it. I knew everybody that worked there and did not feel insignificant or forgotten which may happen in larger companies.

Cons

Communication could improve - in regard to job performance and overall project activity. Life happens and some thing come up last second, but some information could be communicated better to employees to create a more involved and informed work environment. Often times co-workers would leave or be let go with little to no discussion addressing the issue. Job performances occurred but would occasionally fall through the cracks.
