Pros
It is a good baptism into corporate America for high school and college students. Most of the rank and file employees are a lot of fun and easy to work with. Churchill Downs has a good benefit and 401k package for it's full time employees. You get to deal with all walks of life which leads to learning valuable communication and problem solving skills.
Cons
Upper management seems only interested in milking short term profits and lining their personal pockets then trying to make the race track "work again" long term. Their obsession with bringing in slots to save the day is extremely short sighted and a bit delusional. And to say upper management is "the good old boys club" is an understatement. Morale among the ranks is woefully bad and filters throughout the entire park staff. Client tell has changed dramatically over the years thanks to short term marketing schemes. It is not the "family friendly" environment the track preaches about it anymore but one long frat/sorority party every summer.
