Pros
You will meet some great colleagues during your initial induction period, generally everybody who is not manager level will be very amicable. Made some great friends which made the experience only slightly less intolerable. Some good perks in the office, with decent snacks.
Cons
On the first day I thought I could be in trouble here, even the aesthetic of the office screamed at me like a voice reaching out from the void of fake smiles, micromanagement and petty criticism. That aside, my experience at Alphasights was horrid. Even now I shudder when I think back on my misery, and the fear, stress and anxiety it would produce within me. Alphasights made me genuinely miserable, to the point where I would no longer enjoy weekends or time away from work, as my thoughts were constantly preoccupied with the results of my ‘feedback’ sessions, the amount of work I had to do, and the overbearing presence of my manager. Management will be the bane of your experience at Alphasights. They will be completely inexperienced, promoted based solely off being able to hit performance metrics, so many of them will have the emotional intelligence and management skills of a robot, that is to say none. Expect to hear such nauseating phrases as ‘growth mindset’ and ‘low hanging fruit’ while you resist the temptation to smash your keyboard and stand up to the worst excesses of capitalism, (the revolution is nigh comrades). The work is very shallow, it is all about volume, that is to say, how many people can you harass today. There truly is no better method to gain a sense of self worth than to hound people via call, text and email until they request a DNC. The micromanagement is insane, which is a frequent topic of mention in this forum. The company feels like big brother, always checking in on you, and those who are at manager level have drank the kool-aid and any sense of empathy, understanding or kindness (which is questionable if it was even there in the first place) is gone, and the Alphasights airpod wearing, gilet donning cult member is born. These people are the attack dogs of Alphasights, frothing at the mouth with newfound power upon promotion to this rank, straining at the leash to be set loose upon fresh grads, ready to destroy their enthusiasm, and drain them of their energy. In other words, this place will chew you up and spit you out, make no mistake about it. I made the mistake of reading the Glassdoor reviews on the company before joining, and ignoring them anyway, as I thought it couldn’t be as bad as they made out. Trust me, it is. I feel I have a sense of duty to those who are prospective grad hires, go into this with your eyes open. This is a dead end role of a mixture of sales/recruitment, with essentially zero hard skills to be gained. You have been warned.
