      Service Desk Analyst Level 1

      Pros

Good for experience working with enterprise level tools. Team was decent, ie peoples nature was good. Although most people were of the mindset that they can't move out of the Service Desk, ie negative outlook. Good for graduates or beginners. Respected company.

      Cons

Big company but you don't get much exposure at service desk with other teams. Only through email and phone calls. If you are of average of above average intelligence and you are hard working, then there is no point in sticking with this company after 6 months, specially in this role. Most people at service desk had given up on life. They were neither doing anything to progress themselves, nor was the company providing much push. This company is good for learning and then finding a high paying job elsewhere. Dont' get stuck with the mindset of career progression. This is a hollow promise at this company. If you want to spend 2 years at service desk level 1, then 2-3 years at level 2, then this is the company for you. You can put in 100% but won't get a pay rise at the end of year. Below market pay rates.

Overall a good company to start your career.

      Pros

Variety of work and clients. Can help you to extend your contacts network. Training and certification on your field of expertise is paid by the organisation. Health insurance and other benefits are provided.

      Cons

Salaries tend to be on the lower end of the scale. It varies depending on the team and manager you work for. There is no clear career progression path.

The perception from the outside is not the reality on the inside

      Pros

Working for a recognised "brand" organisation. If you're lucky, there are opportunities to get involved with some interesting and diverse projects and clients. Ability (within reason) to choose working hours/routine to suit.

      Cons

The perception of the Datacom brand in the market is massively at odds with the reality. You may be shoved into a role on the basis of simply being available, not the ability to perform the role (or have to deal with working with someone in that position). The very flexible approach to working hours can be challenging when it comes to arranging a schedule with colleagues who choose vastly different hours/routines. Very poor salaries. The low salaries mean there are very few experienced or quality people to work with or for the less experienced people to learn from. Management is very disconnected. Very much a case of "them and us". Very poorly defined career progression based primarily on being "one of us" rather than ability or aptitude. There is an obsession with an annual survey of employee engagement but no real attention given to actually providing an engaging workplace.

      Pros

Previously would have said family atmosphere and career opportunities, but no longer.

      Cons

Career progression limited since org restructure Family atmosphere lost - becoming more like other MS providers that are all about making money, spending as little as possible and not caring about staff. The amazing culture that existed in Canberra has gone out the window.

      Pros

      - Depending on the project and project manager, flexibility in work hours and working from home if needed. - Salary. - If you're lucky you get to work with some great colleagues.

      Cons

      - Typical consultancy: you're treated like a number. - Expect your career to go backwards. - Huge stress on projects. - Senior management doesn't support projects teams (you have to fend for yourself). - Minimal care about training. - No idea who my line manger is. No idea what the upward report chain is. No idea who approves my leave. I only know my project manger on my current project. - I haven't had an annual review since I joined (1+ years ago). No care about career progression. - Projects have a rotation of bad project managers. - Client engagement contracts are bad, under quoted and under scoped. - No good for graduates. - No good for career progressions.

      Pros

Great environment to work in. Company has an open door philosophy where you can go to anyone, including management at any time you want.

      Cons

Depending on which team you work in, Career progression is virtually non existent. Salary is not great work the amount of work they make you do and compared to most other companies out there.
