Pros

The work can be interesting

Cons

This company is attempting to ruin my life due to their non-compete agreement. I am currently going through the legal process of having to take them to court, and am also in touch with the media to bring light to the situation. I did not operate as a trader or have access to trading information at any time, yet I am barred for an entire year from working at any financial organisation at any capacity. The company applies a blanket clause to the entire financial industry within their UNPAID non-compete agreement. This means that upon leaving the firm, you will be BARRED from working in finance in all capacities, be it a software provider, bank, trading firm, or anything remotely related to finance that you can think of. I will stress again, this is UNPAID and fully enforced by DRW. You will NOT work in finance and the firm will NOT paid you for this time of which you are barred. I have attempted to negotiate with the firm asking for some form of payment during these ridiculous clauses, yet they refuse and simply state "Tough luck, you signed the contract, we don't legally have to pay you." The firm will also ask you to provide full details and a job spec of ANY job you wish to go to. If you are thinking of joining this firm, read these words carefully as I would not wish this awful situation on anyone. Negotiate the non compete, and ensure it is paid, otherwise you will find yourself in a difficult and expensive situation. As a side note, you will also be required to work multiple weekends which you will not be paid for.

Pros

* great perks, benefits and big bonuses * friendly environment with amazing colleagues from other teams

Cons

* not a lot of smart people around you * amateur managers with little experience, tends to lead towards stunted learning and career growth * not enough market impact for your job experience, as its an exclusive "PRIVATE" hedge fund * frequent firing all year round, fear of job security looms over everybody's head

Pros

Lunch and breakfast are good. Compensation can be good (but very dependent on team)

Cons

Your experience at this company is very dependent on what team you’re on. Each manager has complete control of his team (yes HIS, female managers are non-existent on the trading side, female employees are few and far between). My manager was a bank trader from the 90s and he ran the team as such. Junior employees must be the first in and last out, regardless of if there was work to do. The appearance of being busy was rewarded more than actual impactful work. Bonus, where most of your compensation comes from as a trader, is entirely up to the whim of your manager with no transparency. Expect to be disappointed in your bonus conversation. Due to this there are lots of petty office politics and your peers will constantly try to one-up you while also talking behind your back to put you down. It seems like micromanagement is encouraged because it’s widespread. My mental health suffered greatly as a result of working here and I would not recommend it to anyone. I have nothing good to say about working here. The money was decent (not as good as it should have been given my performance) but it was not worth the trauma that was required to earn it.

DRW Response

While we do work to provide benefits (like fully catered breakfast and lunch) as part of making DRW as great place to work, nothing replaces the importance of a respectful, collaborative environment. The behavior you describe below is counter to our values and to the experience we know is necessary to hire and retain the talented professionals we need to continue to be successful in markets around the world. We have shared your feedback with our HR team and hope you also were candid in your exit interview so that we can properly address this. We appreciate you taking the time to leave this review and hope you are doing well.
