The most common theme for a struggling company with poor company culture is poor leadership. Crownpeak is no different. They are on their 3rd CEO in 4 years, and the results keep getting worse.
The CEO leads by fear. He has ZERO experience in the content platform world, but if you don't agree with everything he says, you better find a new opportunity. It's amazing how much talent he let go within his first 6 months. Almost the entire executive team is made up of his former colleagues that he knows will not question his leadership in any aspect.
There are other huge issues at Crownpeak. The Product is slow and buggy. It's written on very old .NET technology that creates an unstable platform. The hosting with AWS is the lowest tier that Amazon offers. They claim the product has updates every 2 weeks, but it has no major changes in 10 years. It took them till 2018 to offer drag and drop! The product is difficult to use, and requires paid professional services at every turn. It's not a SaaS solution as they advertise! Crownpeak did acquire 2 new products to diversify their platform, but again, it was a swing and a miss. None of the solutions integrate with one another, and both are priced higher with far less features than the competition. Bottomline, all of this leads to very low demand and recognition for the product. Ask 100 people in tech if they've heard about Crownpeak, I'd be shocked if 3 people say they have.
If you think I'm a disgruntled employee that doesn't believe me, look at the numbers. The company has been around since 2001, and has had 7 CEO's. It's been in business for approximately 18 years, and it's a $10 M company. You tell me, does that sound like a company you want to work for???
