Pros

Nice office with all the amenities one comes to expect from a network agency; latest computers, softwares, kitchens, conference rooms, parking, state of the art coffee machines, balconies, pool table, close to great eateries, etc, etc. Eager staff at the entry levels and blue chip accounts...mainly, just two but blue chip nonetheless.

Cons

For all the amenities and state of the art tools, mid-level and upper management employees can't figure out how to run an account let alone an agency. They're passive, reactionary, and myopic when it comes to running an account, "we do it like this because the client asked for it...or...the client complained so now we do this." They look to the client for direction instead of leading the client --order takers instead of strategic partners. VPs run things inefficiently and are often MIA. A handful of staffers "in the clique" have the VPs believing they do a lot and know a lot about the accounts when they could ALL be easily replaced. That's what happens when you hire people with no college degree and quickly (out of fear and manipulation) are promoted. Some, with only 4 years ad agency experience, call themselves account sups and others dare to call themselves management sups. They're all nothing but glorified project managers. No wonder clients, and one in particular, read then the riot act every year and berate them in meetings. It's not that the client is mean. It's that the clients are fed up with their antics and speak out of frustration. They're over their heads (ALL OF THEM) mostly playing at Mad Men who couldn't understand BDIs, CDIs or ROIs if they even bothered to look them up. Some creatives ignorantly "think" no account person has ever written creative briefs when, in fact, any account person worth his salt do/should. That's how inexperienced these people are. They chase their tails trying to understand Total Market and STILL don't get it. Everything about how this agency is staffed is all wrong from the Puerto Ricans who have no understanding or EXPERIENCE WITH the largely Mexican Hispanic market to the Brazilians who are barley comprehensible in either English or Spanish running a Hispanic agency. Never mind all the Argentinian creatives they import directly from South America with NO CLUE about the, again, predominantly MEXICAN Hispanic market in the US. Not only do they have no clue about the US Hispanic market, their approach is outdated, stereotyped and disdainful. None of the upper-lever staff would even dare go east of the 405. They have no respect for this market so how well do their clients think they can market to them with these "professionals" at the helm?

Most toxic ad agency ever. Leadership in complete denial.

Pros

None at all, for reals.

Cons

Leadership is in complete denial and don't really care about people working. They've had 4 CCOs in 5 years, which speaks about what happens there. There are no chances to grow and they treat employees really bad. DO NOT WORK THERE. Just see how many bad reviews this place has. There's even a Wall of the Fallen where they pin all the names of those who quit or get fired and the list keeps getting longer and bigger. I hope they don't take it down after they desperately read all these reviews thinking one person wrote all of them out of spite and not the large number of unhappy former employees. The only happy people are those untalented and naive enough to not know any better or those who've only worked at Conill their entire careers because they don't know how to grow in this industry.

Pros

There are a lot of really kind, smart, hard-working people at the agency, who upper management doesn't acknowledge.

Cons

Put it this way: upper management has no idea how hard the plebeians are working. Upper management is in the 1% and love making more $, while the rest of the agency breaks their backs to ensure they can sustain their fancy lifestyle. Globally, they haven't given raises or promotions in 4 years and expect people to remain positive despite dismal employee morale. Yet some departments can get their promotions and raises pushed through, because it's so political. The current ambience at Conill is bordering on abusive, with 16+ hour workdays and no room for growth. There is little work-life balance. There are a few bad seeds are nice to your face, and but then talk behind your back. There are a couple of people who are downright mean. There are several bullies in positions of authority who are not trustworthy. With them, the backstabbing is insane. You might even call it "cutthroat." Why does a workplace have to be so toxic, given that they generally employ nice, super hard-working people? Besides these horrible morale issues, everyone is burned out beyond belief and again, upper management either doesn't know, or doesn't care to change anything. They're playing ostrich with their heads in the sand. There's no point of even telling your managers the truth of what's happening, because you'll get labeled as "disloyal" + "not a team player" for being honest and/or trying to set boundaries. Upper management won't get it till someone literally keels over and dies from the stress. Or cancer. Stay away from this sinking ship!!!
