      Merchandise Analyst Rotational Program Interview

      10 Nov 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Walgreens

      Interview

I applied online through my university. The first round was done on campus. It was pretty easy - "tell me about yourself," then about 5 behavioral questions. They left some time at the end for me to ask them questions. I thought it was very rigid and was not impressed with the interviewers. They made it obvious that they were reading the questions word for word off the paper they had. About a week later they called me back and invited me to the second round interview. I flew to Chicago for a day, but the whole process there was very short. We met with current MARPs who answered our questions and did a presentation for us about the company. Then there were two back-to-back 30 minute interviews. They were similar to the first round. I was very unimpressed with the interviewers. They seemed like they had never conducted an interview before and had no interest in meeting with me. We also took a tour of the facility, ate lunch, and had to take an Excel class (very short and easy). Overall, the company came off as very rigid and old-fashioned. There was a clear lack of connection between the different departments within the company.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Walgreens (Tucson, AZ) in Nov 2015

      Interview

During my school's career fair I was able to meet with recruiters and a current member of the rotational program, all of which were very informative discussions. About three weeks later I attended a dinner with two members of the Walgreens team, a previous intern that had recently accepted a full time offer and a few other candidates. The three Walgreens merchant analysts not only had wonderful insight to give about the program and the company, but were also genuinely kind and personable. I was able to talk to them about life in Illinois, the company culture, where to live, and even improv comedy. The following day I had an interview with the two full time employees simultaneously. About two days later, I received a call informing me that I was invited to two more interviews with other merchants over Skype. During both interviews the Walgreens video chat system wasn't working so we ended up having the interview over the phone. The two interviewers were extremely personable and had very impressive backgrounds within the company. The two interviews were on separate days and about three hours after my final interview, I received a call from HR with an offer.

      Interview

Was contacted by an HR representative who scheduled a phone interview. The interview did not last as long as I was expecting and they asked the typical behavioral questions about working in teams, how much practice I've had using excel, and more. The description of the program was not very clear, and when I asked more about it, the answer I was given was not as helpful as I had hoped
