      ESL Teacher Interview

      4 Feb 2017

      Accepted offer
      Positive experience

      Application

The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at VIPKid (Stapleton, AL) in Feb 2017

      Interview

There was an initial interview after submission of my resume and being contacted by VIPKID through email. That was an interview with someone in China that went over my background and reiterated the time zone difference and expectations of me as a teacher. I was given material for a 10 minute demo course that I had to perform in the first interview. The interviewer acted as a 5 year old and based on my performance I was graded. That grade is how VIPKID determines your rate of pay. After that, I was sent an email with materials for a full 25 minute mock class. That interview is about an hour long. First, a teacher (mine was in IL) speaks with you. You begin the PowerPoint as if you were in class with again a 5 year old student. Half way through they provide feedback and then want to see you focus on that feedback for the remaining half of the class. Afterwards they speak with you about the company and what they felt about your mock class. They forward the information to VIPKID who then will send an acceptance or denial. Some people have to perform a second mock class like the first. I am not sure what that entails as I did well in the first one and was hired after just one mock class.
