Human Resources had explained that in order to apply for this position, I had to complete a diploma program at Bidwell Training Center. However, it was not mandatory and other employees are hired without receiving the diploma. During my interview, I was able to tell them that I had received the diploma as requested so I was easily offered the job being that there was an open position available. The interview was conducted outside of the human resources building at a picnic table with two interviewers. I explained to them all of the knowledge that I received from the diploma program and how I was now qualified for the job. It was obvious that the interviewers were pleased that I quickly pursued the diploma after my initial application. After one employer left the interview, the other employer hinted to me that I would most likely be receiving the job. She confirmed with a phone call that I received shortly after I left. There was only one interview. A second interview was not required. I'd like to add that the diploma program taught me many skills, but once I started the job I realized that a lot of the work I was doing was not covered in any of my classes. I was told that it normally takes six months for one to become comfortable with this job. I suggest that anyone seeking a unit secretary position request a job shadow opportunity before deciding if the job is right for you.
