I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Thumbtack (San Francisco, CA) in Nov 2016
Interview
Save some time for your self. its not worth attending interviews at Thumbtack.
As many other people told about their interview experience at Thumbtack, They will not hire you until and unless you have big companies like Google, Amazon, Facebook etc.
Coming to my experience, Recruiter contacted me via indeed back in October. first there was a telephonic interview where the interviewer asked me a tough question. I was able to solve it in last few mins of the interview. Then a onsite interview was scheduled which consisted for 5 rounds which include 3 coding rounds, 1 design round and 1 behavior round.
All the 3 coding questions were real tough, but i was able to solve all of them with the best complexity. Even the design question was really tough and I think i did a good job there too.
After 2 business days i got a call from recruiter saying that they are looking for some one with more experience than me. I really dont understand why did they interviewed me when they are looking for more experience. My experience is clearly visible from my resume.
Another worst thing, one of the interviewers asked my name and which company i am working for questions. He did not even go through my resume.
I was shocked when the recruiter told me that they are not giving an offer because i was able to solve all the problems which were really tough.
As a matter of fact, i got a offer letter from one of the top companies the next week. I would openly admit, my performance at thumbtack was 10 times better than my performance at the other company interview which gave an offer.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Thumbtack in Jun 2024
Interview
One round of recruiter call, the recruiter rescheduled the call 5 times (not exaggerating). when we finally got on the call he sounded unenthusiastic about the company, lots of sighs, even said that he's already in a friday mood (it was a wednesday). Asked me about what I knew about the company, I gave him a high level description, he made fun of me for not giving detailed enough info and not doing my research before the interview.. overall he came of as rude. will not be moving forward with them. He also seemed very stuck on the leveling of the position, this could be a good thing but I've never had a recruiter needing me to have the exact title from my last company, as far as I know, these titles mean different things at different companies.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
What did you know about the company, describe what has been `keeping you busy`

Interview
The entire interview process was straightforward and efficient. The recruiter was thorough in explaining the nuances of the role and steps of the interview process during our initial call. After the technical interview (online challenge via Hackerrank), he prepped me for the virtual onsite and made sure I felt confident and prepared. (I'm interviewing at several different companies and many of them don't even offer a prep call or guidance along the way.) This left me with a really positive impression about Thumbtack overall. I didn't receive an offer, but my experience throughout the process was positive and the recruiter said he would let me know if they other roles open where I might be a better fit, which I appreciated. Keeping my fingers crossed to hear from them in the future.

Interview
Not great. Would not recommend applying to this company but do so at your own risk. Person interviewing me seemed nice though. They did not seem to know what they wanted from me as an engineer.
