      Senior Developer Interview

      24 Jun 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Riot Games

      Interview

They have a fairly typical process for tech companies: initial phone screen, technical phone screen, on-site full day of interviews. They screen for both job-related background, and gaming experience (and specific experience with LoL), and seem to value both fairly equally in the selection process (ie: you're not going to get an offer there unless you are highly passionate about both). I'm not going to get into specifics of questions, out of respect for their process, but I did find it somewhat odd that the on-site interviews focused almost exclusively on inter-personal interactions and inter-department communication, and not at all on technical topics. They also have somewhat conflicting information about what type of people they are looking for (eg: the public materials tout being bold and passionate, but the feedback from the interview process emphasized the need for people who are cautious, diplomatic, and work well inside a larger organization). I also thought it was odd that they would pull people with smaller company backgrounds and experiences into their process, when that seemed to be an automatic disqualification factor based on the post-interview feedback. I have to give them credit for communicating why they are not extending an offer, though; not enough companies do this. I feel like they are still working out how to get everyone on the same page for what they are looking for as they grow, and update their "smaller company" materials and messaging to match their new "bigger company" mentality. I think the people there handled the process very nicely and professionally, though, aside from some issues with effectively communicating the qualities they were actually looking for.

      Question 1

Without getting into specifics, there's a focus on gaming, your LoL gameplay experience, Riot's public company materials, and company processes inside a larger organization.

      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      6 Dec 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Los Angeles, CA
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Riot Games (Los Angeles, CA) in Oct 2025

      Interview

The interview process begins with a screening by the Riot Games recruiter, and then a series of 2 interviews, one personality screening with the team's producer and a second technical interview with a programmer on the team. The technical interview is preceded by a programming test which was a fairly simple task, and in the technical interview we discussed various topics relevant to Riot Games products at a high level. After the initial test and set of 2 interviews, I was invited to an additional panel of 5 interviews, with a subsequent programming assignment of higher complexity. In this second set of panel interviews, there were 2 technical interviews which were very friendly, low-stress and positive. There were also 3 personality-focused interviews, with the interviewer reading from a series of pre-prepared questions and then having me answer them.

      Interview

I had a call with a recruiter going over my experience and why I want to work at Riot. Easy questions. Also went over what games I have played recently.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Riot Games in Feb 2025

      Interview

Met with a recruiter that told me the process was 7 ROUNDS OF INTERVIEW EXCLUDING the phone call. A red flag to begin with, especially seeing that other people could get an interview done in 2 weeks. It took one week to get to the second round and it was a behavioral part and the interviewer acted very unprofessional and seemed like she wanted to get over with it quickly. Being very qualified for the position doesn't get you anywhere again, just a boys club.
