      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Police Scotland

      Interview

After attending the first set of examination papers and successfully passing the fitness assessment (bleep test) you are invited to the first interview which they inform you is an hour long. The interview is much shorter than this and you'll be asked to go over any changes to your vetting form, including any new personal circumstances. I was expecting to be asked at least about 30 questions and instead was asked approximately only five or six which put me in a position of not including all key competencies and answers that I spent time preparing for. My advice to anyone else about to go through the process would be to be prepared for this short amount of questioning, using the STAR (situation, task, action, result) system of answering questions even when caught off guard. Other than the National Priorities of Policing another thing I recall being asked about was my knowledge of the key components of equality and diversity. I was given same day feedback on whether I'd made it to the next stage (via email). I personally was not and was invited to reapply in six months and offered telephone feedback on my interview performance a week later.

      Difficult interview

      Application

      I interviewed at Police Scotland

      Interview

Done my interview 2023. Formal. 2 interviewers, interview is designed to put a fair amount of pressure on you to see how you can handle it. Although formal, they were quite nice. Happy to chat before the interview begun. If you're successful in the interview they'll then test you for drug use. Taking a hair sample and sending it away for analysis.

      Interview questions [4]

      Question 1

Competency based question, based on the CVF (you should study the CVF before interview) Tell me a time you dealt with an emotionally sensitive situation.
      Answer question

      Question 2

Tell me about a time that you took ownership.
      Answer question

      Question 3

Tell me about a time where you were open minded to a change, and also innovative.
      Answer question

      Question 4

There may be situational questions too. A what would you do in this situation type of thing. Mostly common sense but they do change the situation to put pressure on you which is tricky.

      Anonymous interview candidate
      Glasgow, Scotland
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 12 months. I interviewed at Police Scotland (Glasgow, Scotland) in Jun 2022

      Interview

Incredibly long and arduous, and lacks a great deal of common sense. The process, for the most part, is conducted in person, but requires a constant level of following up with recruitment in order to move anything forward.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Questions are typically around their values framework, as well as competency based questions and team work exercises.
