I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Plasma Games (Raleigh, NC) in Mar 2021
Interview
Initial 15 minute phone conversation with a recruiter, then 1 hour Google Meet with the CEO. Didn’t make it past that. CEO is a complete jerk who asked too invasive questions and tried to trip me up. It was also a complete flip of the script from what the recruiter was telling me. The recruiter said that I could be remote, but the CEO said I had to come in person. I said I didn’t want to commute or only commute during non-peak times. The CEO took that as me not wanting to work, which is not the case. I just don’t like driving in traffic. That was it. The CEO made a big deal out of everything and kept trying to twist my words. He asked me what I did over the weekend 3 times, grilled me about my educational experience, and asked oddball questions. I think the guy was just trying to weed me out, instead of genuinely getting to know me. One of the feedback points he gave the recruiter was that I was not confident in my ability to do the work, which is completely false, because when the CEO walked through an example of what work would look like, I clearly said that I would be able to work to those standards and that they were better than my current work environment. I think that the process is completely ridiculous. I believe I should’ve met with an engineer on the team before meeting him so that I could get a better picture. The recruiter tried to guilt me into this job by saying that I would be missing out on generational wealth if I didn’t take this opportunity and made the job sound a lot more exciting than the CEO did. Also, based on my experience actually working and actively interviewing, most of the tech world is moving to React for the front end. The CEO challenged me on that and was shocked I informed him about that. I am confident in my abilities and I know what I want. The CEO is a jerk.
