The entire interview process although long was pretty standard for the industry and my other experiences. However, it was negative for two reasons: the hiring and recruiting team, and my final interview with the company.
The problems with the recruiting and hiring team were mainly around them not clearly outlining what the interview and hiring process would be like which included three rounds of interviews (five interviews total including a panel interview with people who weren’t even the ones I was told would be interviewing me) spread across months of time. In addition, they frequently dropped all communication with me for weeks at a time and had to be contacted before any update was provided. In my final conversation with someone from their team, which occurred after I withdrew my application, I was told that I would be contacted again a few weeks later for a follow up, and of course that never happened. Par for the course for this company and their hiring process.
Now on to the my final interview with the company. In my interview with him, which was the final interview, I was told that he liked me and that “It is a matter of when not if” in his own words that I would be joining the team. Thus, I assumed I had the position and stopped applying for other positions since this interview and statement came from someone who oversees the entire Compliance program.
A few weeks later after hearing nothing, I reached out to the recruiter mentioned previously and was told that a new member of senior leadership had come in and had done away with the position after the months I had spent in the interview process and the promise I received at the end. I was told I was the only one that they hadn’t cut loose yet since they were still holding onto my application in case they could get it to work, but I told them I had a horrible experience and would rather just withdraw at that time. To top it off, the person who conducted that final interview with me and made the statement never even reached out to me to apologize for what happened, even though he was the one who made that statement to me. That is just cowardly in my opinion and shows a complete lack of decency and respect.
