      Backend Developer Interview

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Lasting Dynamics

      Interview

The whole process took about 2 weeks. The first interview took place with a recruiter and 5 more candidates in the same call. The recruiter only asked us to present ourselves and if we are willing to relocate to Las Palmas. That was all. On the other hand he failed to answer any of our questions, stating that he doesnt know the answer but will answer our questions later on email, which never happened. 2nd interview took place in the same manner, but this time with 7 other candidates and a developer. The developer would ask simple theoretical questions and who ever raised hand first would get to answer. One of the candidates was clearly typing the questions on ChatGpt and reading word by word, for which, at the end of the interview was actually praised by the interviewer. I would be really mad to find out that that was actually the candidate that went further. The whole process felt sus and wrong. There is no way you can decide which candidates are better for the role with those types of interviews. Also it really felt like the interviewers didnt care even the slightest about your background, skills, motivations etc.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Lasting Dynamics in Feb 2025

      Interview

The interviewer was very kind and professional. The interview was conducted in a group setting, where individuals with varying levels of experience were mixed together. As someone without prior experience, I found the questions quite challenging. However, other candidates had university degrees and practical experience, which allowed them to answer most of the questions with confidence. The interviewers inquired about various technical topics, including practical and theoretical approaches to managing a large number of queries, the requirements for creating an ORM, eager loading versus lazy loading, practical examples of SQL relational databases, and the advantages and disadvantages of using an ORM. They placed significant value on both theoretical and practical responses. For example, while theoretical knowledge—such as enumerating the advantages of an ORM—is important, they were also interested in candidates' personal experiences and opinions. Alternatively, candidates could discuss practical advantages they had encountered while using ORMs in real-world scenarios.

      Question 1

How would you optimize a slow REST API due too many DB queries? How do you scale a database that have "x" situation? Do you know what is Lazy Loading? What is the difference between it and Eager Loading?

      Backend Developer Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Lasting Dynamics in Dec 2024

      Interview

The interview was in a group format; there were three candidates in total and one developer asking questions. Although the email mentioned it would last an hour, it ended up taking an hour and a half, so it’s better not to schedule anything immediately afterward. I found it strange that we weren’t all at the same level. I haven’t worked before, so I was at a junior level, while the other two had work experience (one of them is even listed as a senior on LinkedIn). The questions weren’t difficult; the developer would ask, and whoever wanted to answer would raise their hand on Google Meet.

      Question 1

There were questions about databases, indexes, views, REST API, HTTP verbs, security, and the ACID and CAP principles and others.
