      Personal Banker Interview

      25 Apr 2010
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Oceanside, CA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at JPMorganChase (Oceanside, CA) in Apr 2010

      Interview

The hiring process begins with an online submission of your resume and personal information. From there they will ask you to complete several online assessment tests which will test to see if you are good with numbers, math and general logic issues. If that goes well, you will hear from a recruiter by phone for a brief 20 minute phone interview. If they like you, you will move on to an interview with a branch manager. Mine took 2 hours. From there an interview was set up with the district manager. After this step there is a two week background check and an offer is made following that. You move to getting your series 6, 66 and life insurance licenses after this which should take about 2-3 months. Following the testing you will go through a few weeks of sales training before they let you lose in the branch. A few things to consider if you are going through the process right now. Be prepared to live on the $32,000 base salary for the first 3-4 months because your commissions won't kick in until the end of your second month of working in the branch. Also, the main thing that got me bounced from contention was that I let on that I like to be CREATIVE AND ENTREPRENEURIAL. These are bad words around chase. If you want this job tell them that you are very comfortable with working from a script on everything and have no issue doing the same job day in and day out. There is no work with investments for this position and you are more or less a glorified teller who picks people out of the teller line to try and sell products to at your desk. There seems to be a lot of turn over with this position, so do your homework and make sure that you are going to accept the type of job and pay you will get. Also, regarding pay...from everyone I spoke with you can expect $1,150 at the minimum per month in commission and if you are good in a branch with good traffic, you can make as much as $2k - 3k per month. This is all based on a system of points, which they call PVC points that you get for each checking, savings acct opened, or direct deposit, credit card or debit card you sell. It seems that it can be a lot of work to top out around $65k if you are really good. One last thing...if you don't have a license right now (6, 66 and Life)...know that you will be let go if you fail any of these tests during your training on the front end. They may also have some sort of penalty payment back to them if you leave the organization before the end of one year...I heard this from a few people and the branch manager denied it. Good luck and I hope this helps you out!
