I applied in-person. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at JCPenney (Vernon Hills, IL) in May 2011
Interview
Very straightforward, not a difficult or challenging interview process by any standard. If you can speak English properly and can demonstrate any kind of interest in working in retail as a customer service associate, you'll coast through the process. One half hour interview with the department manager followed by a computer training module.
It was overall easy. I was contacted over the phone to set up the interview. It was informal and relaxed. Hiring manager went over some standard questions. Discussed availability, salary
was simple and quick, not many questions were asked, it was a group interview where we helped each other builds blocks and keep it from falling down. The manager was watching us use teamwork together to understand if we all fit into their team environment.
