      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at HealthArc in Nov 2024

      Interview

Interview Process 2 rounds: DSA and System Design/Machine Coding The first round was standard with 3 medium-level DSA questions. However, the second round was highly problematic. Despite being scheduled as a machine coding/LLD round for a senior position (4+ YOE), the interviewer spent the entire hour drilling basic theoretical CS concepts typically asked in fresher interviews. There were last-minute scheduling issues (notification just 4 minutes before), and the interviewer appeared visibly annoyed from the start. Instead of focusing on practical system design appropriate for a senior role, the interviewer asked elementary theoretical questions about internal implementations (concurrent hashmap internals, memory models) and specific Spring Boot annotations - topics that experienced developers refer to documentation for rather than memorize. When reminded that this was supposed to be a machine coding round, the interviewer dismissed the concern stating "I can ask whatever I want." The interviewer's tone was consistently condescending and unprofessional. What bothered me most wasn't the technical questions themselves, but their misalignment with senior-level expectations and the interviewer's confrontational attitude. This experience suggests serious issues with interview process standardization and interviewer conduct. Pros: - First round was well-structured - HR tried to be accommodating with scheduling Cons: - Interview questions misaligned with senior role expectations - Poor communication about round format - Last-minute scheduling changes - Confrontational interviewer behavior - Interview completely deviated from intended format - Focus on theoretical trivia rather than practical system design skills
