      Architectural Designer Interview

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Gensler

      Interview

WORST. EXPERIENCE. EVER. I first got scheduled for a phone interview where the interviewer showed up THREE hours late with zero remorse about it as if I was wasting his time. I was then scheduled for an in-person interview in their NYC office where the two HR hiring managers were an HOUR late. Mind you, they knew I had just flown from afar to come just for this interview. When I finally met with the two of them, they were EXTREMELY rude and condescending towards me. The two of them were giving off mean girl high school bully vibes and staring at each other with each response I gave. They subtly belittled me for the college I went to, noting that it was not an Ivy League. Not sure why that mattered to them or why it was even brought up. I felt so uncomfortable throughout this process that I couldn't believe professionals in such a well-known and prestigious company would act like this. They also looked at my portfolio and judged it without any architectural background themselves. I was also supposed to meet with the first person I had talked to originally on the phone for a technical follow-up the same day after the HR interview. I was told he was unavailable to meet with me. I usually never write reviews like this but I have never felt so disrespected in my entire life. Don't waste your time with this company.

I had 1 interview with the design director and design manager. It was straightforward and they asked about my skills and experience. It did not seem as hard as I thought it would be.

      Interview

I recently had the privilege of being interviewed at Gensler, a global architecture and design firm. The interview process was a positive and enriching experience, and I would like to take a moment to reflect on it and summarize what I have learned from the experience. First and foremost, the interview with Gensler was an opportunity to showcase my skills, experience, and passion for the field of architecture and design. The interview process itself was conducted in a professional and timely manner, with thoughtful and engaging questions from the panel. I felt welcomed and valued throughout the interview, which set the first impression of the firm as a positive one. Reflecting on the interview process, I realized that it was not only a chance for me to to showcase my abilities but also an opportunity to learn about the firm and the work they do. The interview panel took the time to explain the company culture, the values they hold, and the projects they work on. This provided me with a better understanding of the firm's goals and values, and helped me determine if they would be a good fit for me.
