I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Genentech in Mar 2011
Interview
Learned of opening from existing rep. Applied online and asked existing rep to forward my resume to hiring manager. Manager called me for interview within a week's time. Interview lasted 1.5 hours, asked very few questions, was more interested in telling me about his career path. The interivew seemed very preliminary, but maybe that's because he was already set on an inexperienced candidate although he told me he wanted someone with experience! When I handed him my business plan for the territory, he said, "what's this?"! It took 3 weeks to hear back from him, and then it was via an email with typos!
The interview process was fair. There were a lot of STAR questions as well as questions regarding my experience. The interview lasted about 45 minutes. Prepare by familiarizing yourself with many STAR question.

I applied online. I interviewed at Genentech (Boston, MA) in Sept 2016
Interview
End of the day. Interviewers lacked energy and interest. Very pro forma.
Interviewers simply were going through the motions. One of the two yawned throughout the Q&A. The hiring Manager appeared intimidated by my age (I am of the Boomer generation).
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Genentech (Chicago, IL) in Aug 2012
Interview
Lengthy and time consuming panel interview. Too many people that could ask varying questions. Once I moved forward in the interview process I did not feel like the hiring manger used desertion for the ultimate decision.
