      Interview

In brief, recruiters at this institution are shortsighted and unable to see potential in transferable skills. They will focus on degrees and GPAs rather than capable people with a demonstrated skill set. They will require you to have a four-year business degree or MBA to do a job any intelligent person with a high school degree could do after being properly trained. This is, according to the job advertisement, what they are looking for in a candidate with a MBA: "Work is performed in an office environment with moderate noise levels and light to heavy traffic. An employee in this position: • Frequently remains stationary throughout a typical business day • Frequently operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer • Occasionally moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, and other rooms • Occasionally positions self to access drawers and shelves of various heights • Frequently reaches for and handles paperwork and files • Constantly communicates with customers, coworkers, and management in-person and on the phone • Must be able to exchange accurate information." Seriously? So, rather than looking at transferable skills, accomplishments, and a successful work history, their HR recruiters will assert that "your educational background does not meet [their] minimum requirements." Wow... I did not know an MBA is required to "frequently reach for and handle paperwork and files." FYI... a degree and high GPA (mind you I have both) are potentially meaningless relative to a candidate's capabilities. You need to dig a little deeper, but lazy HR people don't bother, and it's their company that pays the price in the end. You know what Bill Gates, Ralph Lauren, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Coco Chanel, Steve Wozniak, and Richard Branson all have in common? That's right: NO degrees or GPA to show! I am sure they would all be heart broken to know that there could be no place at FirstBank for them. LOL
