      Graduate Consultant Interview

      6 Sept 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at FactSet (London, England) in Sept 2017

      Interview

Applied online at the end of August, answering some standard application questions (why do you want to work at FactSet etc.) Following this there is a 3 step process. Video Interview: You're sent an email explaining how to set the whole thing up. The interview itself was fine, the interviewer was very friendly and helped make it comfortable. Interview was half personal/CV questions and half slightly more technical ones. Every question she asked had been mentioned in previous reviews, so look over them. A few days after that I was informed I was successful and was invited to an assessment centre the following week. That's split up into 4 separate tests: First there was a test on the FactSet platform, we were shown a 20 minute video tutorial one how to use some basic functionality of it and then were given a 10 minute test afterwards. Fairly straightforward as long as you pay attention to the video and read the questions carefully. Straight after that is an Excel test. Also fairly simple, but brush up on some slightly more difficult concepts such as sorting and vlookup. Following that we were split into groups and asked to do a group exercise. We were given 20 minutes to sort some tasks in order of priority, be sure to consider the consequences for clients and whether the tasks are "proactive" or "reactive". After that came the MicroTeach, possibly one of the more important tests of the day. You basically have to teach a topic of your choice for 10 minutes. They'll give you a brief beforehand with a few more details. The best advice I would give is make it a topic you can be enthusiastic about, some of the unsuccessful candidates I saw chose topics that were fairly nondescript (paper planes, origami) and so their presentations came across as a little more boring. After that you're given lunch for an hour or so, and then they'll come in and tell you who the successful candidates were, these candidates then have a final interview the same day. My interview was similar to many others, a lot of questions about my CV and motivations. And then some questions about the company (products, recent acquisitions). I didn't get an offer following this, my guess is because I didn't do a financial degree and so lacked some of the knowledge and experience that other candidates had.
