      Consultant Interview

      13 Apr 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at FactSet (London, England) in Mar 2016

      Interview

Initially i submitted an online application and this required some essay type questions to be completed. A couple of weeks went by then i was emailed and invited to complete some online tests. These were: a numerical test, and a finance test. Both tests were straight forward and unique to Factset. The first test also includes some quadratic equations and distance calculations but all very simple. The second test includes basics of finance like "Where is the CAC located?" (France). The outcome of the test is supposed to be given within 5 days i believe but i did not receive a response for 10 days so i emailed to ask the status. I was told that i had passed and that i was waiting on some dates for the next step. Some time went by then i received an invitation to a video interview. This went fine and i was asked mainly background questions and questions around what i knew about the company and its competitors. I didnt hear anything back following this and so i had to contact HR again to find out what was happening. I was told that i had passed and i was waiting on assessment centre dates. Some weeks went by and finally i was given a date. The assessment centre was was around 4 hours long. We had an overview of the software and a test on it afterwards. An excel test (conditional formatting, some basic calculations). The excel test was a little difficult because the grammar in their questions was incorrect, and their questions used vocabulary that was finance specific (i'm not of a financial background). We then had a group task wherein we had to discuss and order a series of "to-dos" according to our believed priority. The final part was a microteach for which you are required to give a 10 minute presentation on an interesting hobby that you want to share and educate others on. My experience was rather negative overall. First, dealing with the HR girl. It was very difficult because she was completely hopeless at her job. She is unable to respond to emails in a timely manner. On the day of the assessment centre she went round and told everyone that she didnt know their names, and that she didnt know where her colleague was who was going to present the software system to us. She came across very unprepared for the day. Additionally i would have liked more of a progress update from HR during the lengthy interview process. I was left in the dark several times and didn't feel like a valued applicant. My experience was also negative because during the group task a male manager was present. He subtly made me feel like my sexuality was a problem for him. I was made to feel uncomfortable.

What do you know about Factset? Who are our competitors? What's the difference between IM and IB? How would they each use our software?

      Interview

Straightforward. You begin with a telephone interview, followed by a group interview with you work on a group project and share a talent/skill you possess. If successful, you will then go through several rounds of interview with hiring manager and other senior stakeholders.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at FactSet (London, England)

      Interview

There was an initial virtual interview with HR and then an interview the the manager from the US. HR lady was friendly and was fast to respond to emails. The manager didn’t seem experienced in interviewing, he said so himself and went for someone that didn’t require onboarding training. He said he doesn’t expect knowledge on equity when being quizzed on it but yet the reason for not getting the role was lack of knowledge on it. Was not pleased with this misleading behaviour. The decision felt rushed as they only gave a reply once I emailed so felt like they already had the candidate chosen.
