      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Elsevier (Amsterdam) in Mar 2020

      Interview

It was a fantastic experience interviewing with Elsevier. Their process is really lean and from what I've noticed, they're always looking to improve it. I only had two interviews and they already knew if they wanted to make an offer or not. The first zoom interview was a little bit hard to schedule, because they were interviewing a lot of people and because I wasn't the most available candidate. It was a friendly conversation with the engineering director, which is a very fun and inspiring guy. We introduced ourselves and there was a simple and straight forward technical question, then we spoke about some of my past experiences. The second interview was a two-step of 1 hour each, face-to-face talk with leaders and developers of the team, in the format of "we're going to ask you a bunch of questions until you can't answer anymore or we run out of time", which was very fun and mostly, practical and relevant questions were asked. On every step of the process, they opened up some space for me to ask questions, which most importantly, they very enthusiastically answered. After they've made their mind, who called me to give the good news or feedback was the engineering director himself, which is awesome because most companies give feedback to the recruiter. Besides, when the talent acquisition manager called, he gave detailed feedback on the interview and a few points of improvement, which is very much appreciated. PS: Their office is really big, modern and has a great panoramic view, but also with some cool startup-like stuff.

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Elsevier (London, England) in Jan 2021

      Interview

I had 3 rounds of Interview in total. 1st Round - Talent Acquisition HR - General questions to test the fit for the role, company culture and values, salary expectation, location preference (in my case it was Oxford). 2nd Round - Technical Interview for 45 mins - Covered questions from my past experience. I found most of the questions were follow up on what you say. So, be sure to talk only things that you have worked on. 3rd Round - Coding Interview with two interviewers - 1st question was debugging an incorrect java web service program & 2nd question was to program a simple javascript frontend coding task Overall, good experience through out the interview process. People who I met were very friendly and engaging. I got an offer from Elsevier, however I got 2 other offers from London with a higher salary. So, had to decline the offer.
