      General Management Interview

      24 May 2011
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Duke Energy in May 2011

      Interview

Drove for two hours to the interview, spent sixty dollars on gas with no reimbursement for a one-hour interview. No member of the panel escorted me out of the building afterwards. The panel members seem to have had an attitude towards their own company procedures, and at times seemed to make me think I was wasting their time. Most of these managers have not upgraded their skill set for decades, and the candidates they are interviewing are seriously better trained than they are--especially when it comes to engineering and management. The more academic education and technical skill set you achieve, the chances of a job offer is seriously diminished. This company has had a moratorium on hiring for the last twenty-five years, and most of the managers have twenty to thirty years tenure. They seem to hire mostly family members and friends--according to inside sources--which is causing a negative working environment. This company has a serious nepotism problem, and they are not very nice to outsiders. They have a tendency to interview thirty people for one position, and in many cases, they do not even get back to the candidates they interview. This company used to be the place to work, but they have too many internal issues for a serious professional to stay very long. If you can get hired, get your experience and move on--and good luck! Waste-of-time!
