      Earth Scientist Interview

      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Chevron (Bakersfield, CA)

      Interview

The interview was a full day. I showed up at 8 am and was led around the building to meet some people. I sat with an Earth Scientist for an hour who showed me what he was working on with a modeling program. Afterwards, I was given a presentation that entailed an overview of benefits given by the company. Afterwards, I was interviewed by a panel of 3 which lasted about an hour and a half. Then, I was taken out to lunch. When I returned, I met with another HR rep and then was taken for about an hour ride around town just to be introduced to the area. All in all, a very thorough and enlightening interview.

      Question 1

They wanted to know more about my past work/educational experiences. We discussed what I had done for my thesis and then talked about some software with which I was familiar that they use at that particular office. I think they were just trying to get a feel for my level of competence.

The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Chevron (Houston, TX) in Feb 2012

      Interview

I was picked up from the lobby on time by the hiring team lead. Approx. five interviewers but I sat down with each of them separately. Some questions were generic "why you are leaving"; why you chose Chevron etc; others were unexpected and more technical and specific questions. If I remember correctly, two of the interviewers were the seasoned employees; the other three were fairly young. One manager asked very specific questions about my qualifications / experiences and was very keen in jotting down my answers. I think overal it was a good experience.
