I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at AppNexus (Hamburg) in Jan 2019

      Interview

I had 4 different interviews with the people I would be working with closest. Instead of just being asked questions, all interviews were very interesting conversations where I could ask all my questions and raise any concern.

      Director Interview

      6 Jul 2016
      Anonymous employee
      London, England
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at AppNexus (London, England) in Jun 2016

      Interview

I was referred by an employee at which point I received an initial call from a recruiter who talked to me about my profile and all potential matches they had based on my experience, interest and location. This stage was already very helpful as in larger companies I have interviewed or worked at, recruiters often don't know about roles that are outside of their own hiring scope, so these conversations offer less opportunity to truly explore the best options currently available within the company. After I discussed a few potential roles, the recruiter offered to set up informational calls with the hiring managers of a couple roles that were of interest to me. Both hiring managers were very helpful, easy to talk to and offered valuable insights into the roles and their teams which made my decision to progress by interviewing for a specific role, much easier. In the next stage I had 2 interviews over VC (due to different locations) and further 4 in person interviews in the AppNexus office. All of the interviewers were very professional, prepared and easy to talk to. I felt as if they all really tried to get to know me, rather than go through a pre-determined set of questions, trying to fill in a specific framework - another distinctive difference when compared to interviewing processes at some larger players in the industry. The entire interviewing process focused on real conversations about the industry, AppNexus's position in the market and my own experience and views and felt very natural and pleasant. The entire process was very efficient and swift and the recruiter did everything in her power to adjust to my availability and the fact that I needed to move fast, due to another pending offer.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Why Appnexus? What is my style of management. Instrustry trends/challenges. How would I approach specific situations with the team. My background/motivations/professional path. etc.
      Answer question

      Director Interview

      26 Apr 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at AppNexus (London, England) in Mar 2016

      Interview

Phone, then 4 interviews on-site, then one face-to-face Very subjective in the end. I passed everything fine. Dubious personality reason for not picking me though I came on top in the end (I say dubious because based purely on the opinion of one person I was not meant to interact with on the job, nor did this particular feedback ever come across any of my interviews, for the whole of my 11-year career) My general feeling is that there is a lot of kool-aid drinking involved, more than the average US company. The company tries to behave like Google too much. My advice: Prepare for a bog-standard interview, with all the pseudo-psychological questions and all the right answers they want to hear. Don't try to respond honestly, aim to please (that applies to all companies in tech in London to be honest)
