I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at AppDynamics (London, England) in Mar 2018
Interview
I was contacted by an external recruiter when not open to moving roles and initially declined to apply. However after the persistence of the recruiter to give it a chance, and after researching AppDynamics I thought it would be worth a call.
First stage was a call with an internal recruiter who asked screening questions and made sure I understood the role. I then met with Sales Engineering Managers, had a call with a Regional Sales Engineering Manager, and then finally I met with the UK VP. The interactions with the team each time convinced me further that AppDynamics was the right place for me - after each interview I was more determined to get the position. Each interview was testing what I had learned from the previous interview. The interviews were challenging and well structured. Feedback was instant, and allowed me to prep correctly for the next stages.
During the process there is a take home task which involved setting up AppDynamics and configuring the different components. I thought this was worthwhile to understand more about the product and was a good test of my abilities, and was related to the role. In most interviews with other companies I have found technical test has no relation to the requirements of the role, so this was a nice change.
The internal recruiter was in touch throughout the process and explained why there was a delay (due to the team being away for Sales Kick-off). Other than the delay the process moved quickly.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
What obstacles have you come across previously, and how have you overcome them?
Introductory meeting with hiring manager. Work sample leveraging AppDyanmics. Fairly technical - need to be savvy with the command line. Took probably 8 hours. Then reviewed answers with the manager, who was super helpful in answering questions. After that had a chat with a teammate who helped answer my questions.
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at AppDynamics
Interview
1) Phone screen with recruiter
2) Call with Sales Engineering Director
3) Call with Sales Engineering Manager
4) Take home lab
5) On site interview - presentation, technical questions and professional work experience questions
The lab is great because you get to actually use the AppD product and play around with it. I had no APM experience and was able to figure it out, there were a few things that took me a while to grasp but learning was fun.
Overall, great team - you can tell they care about you as a person, your happiness in the role and really setting clear expectations. I loved the interview process, I was challenged and got to meed some amazing people who I now get to call coworkers.
