      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon (Santa Barbara, CA) in Jan 2022

      Interview

I had 2 screening calls (one with hiring manger, one with team member) before the final loop interview which consisted of 5 back to back interviews and took 6 hours with 1 hour break around lunch time. The entire process from beginning to end took 6 weeks. In the end, they decided to go with another candidate. I have to say it was fast as far as scheduling the calls and responses afterwards but the process gets unnecessarily dragged out. As a working parent of 2 small children and a full time current job, this was extremely hard for me to work out. I took one day or PTO to prepare and one day for the interview. I only get 10 a year so it is somewhat of a sacrifice. I took a weekend to prepare my answers to sample questions along with extra day before. I felt good about the interview except that it was all men on the team. The only women were bar raiser and someone they selected to fill in just to have a female (who had no say in the process either). So it felt like a waste of time and somewhat inauthentic. I read they could take at least 5 to the final loop when o my choosing one person. I find this to be inconsiderate and completely disrespecting prospect employees time. It almost seems like a scam in that they make you invest so much time you feel like you have to get the job or else so much is lost. Also feels like they make it seem harder to get the job so it feels like you accomplished getting hired at such a competitive role even tho they know who they want to hire form the initial screening calls. In the end it gave me a bad taste in my mouth and I will never apply for another position at Amazon again. Who has the time for that? How do they spend so much money and time for employees to spend that much time hiring? Please, also, hire more women in technical roles.
