Featured Review

Current Employee - Analyst

I have been working at Yelp full-time for more than a year

Pros

The "play well with others" value is definitely true, easy to get in touch with people from all functions and levels in the company Kind people who genuinely care about local businesses and... communities Easy to see the impact of your work Lots of opportunities to take ownership and grow quickly, very little time spent on dealing with the bureaucracy Actually cares about having a real business model

Cons

One of the earlier tech companies = non-trivial amount of tech debt Not enough emphasis on structured learning and development, especially IC to people manager transition Could do a lot better... in the biz owner sentiment/sales training department

Advice to Management

Company reputation affects employee satisfaction. We know most of our client base is happy with us, but the vocal, unhappy group has an outsized effect - mgmt should spend more time and resources on... how to address that

Current Employee - Recruiting Coordinator

I have been working at NCSA Next College Student Athlete full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

- company adapts fast to feedback from its employees - management actually listens and thoughtfully responds - changes are swift and impactful to the employees quality of life - getting better... daily through a leadership team that works together well - the leadership has faith in their employee's capabilities - the leadership is always looking for new ways to better equip the staff - the leadership values the opinions and ideas of the staff very much - honoring those who came before you is a way of life at NCSA, it's great! - tenure and loyalty is rewarded heavily, the longer you're here, the more you're brought into the fold.

Cons

- some managers should not have been promoted to management and they have a tendency toward heavy-handedness and poor bedside manner. - employees who are learning and growing can be hurt by immature... managers with poor people skills. - managers can be nice on monday and nasty on tuesday, it all depends on the sales numbers. -instead of managers figuring out better ways to develop their teams' skills, they can be very harsh and demoralizing.

Advice to Management

i deleted my previous 2-star rating. i had very harsh words for the company in the past but i am honestly very impressed with the changes that have been made at NCSA. as with every mid to large... company there is still room for improvement with some aspects of middle management that i believe will iron itself out with time. i have had a front-row seat to witness the impact my feedback on GD has had and i have nothing but praise for this leadership team now and their willingness to grow and improve and their humility to change. even through the coronavirus challenges, they've managed to adapt swiftly and become an even closer team persevering through adversity. great job, ncsa!
