Cons

Former Employee - Route Service Sales Representative (RSSR)

I worked at New System Laundry full-time for less than a year

Pros

Well established company. High tech washers. Focus on environment. Wage looked good. Job seemed simple enough. Acted professional in interview. Hourly + commission so earning potential might be... pretty good. If run a little differently it would be a solid place to work. After my short experience, I will be avoiding these people.

Cons

Early start time. On call some weekends. Old rattly truck. Not professional in person. Did 2 interviews, everything seemed fine. Went for "ride along". Jesse was charming and friendly, Sam didn't... seem prepared to give me a tour or have a plan for the day. I figured it'd take about an hour to see what the job is like. Nope. They "put me to work" as Sam put it. Worked hard for over 4 hrs for no pay. Saw some pretty dubious business practices. Was then told "sorry we're going with someone else" with no explanation as to why. Took it up with HR and they said working people for free is a standard practice.

Advice to Management

Interview was a bit stiff and largely irrelevant. Most of the questions gave little to no insight into my work ethic. Instead of asking where I attended high school 20 years ago why not just call my... actual current employer and see if I do a good job? Felt like the kind of unnecessary overcooked style you see from managers who only study how to be a manger on paper. The kind of people who would read The Book of Five Rings. Don't ask potential hires to work for free! A ride along is supposed to be observation only. And let people know how long it's going to take. Also, if your ONLY job is to replace soiled mats/towels with clean, MAKE SURE you have the proper supplies. Portland should not be regularly shorting you on what the customers are paying for! Keep an overstock in the warehouse! For goodness sake.
